Summary of Bilateral Media and Press Exchanges Between China and Barbados

(1) In April 1983, at the invitation of the"Radio Beijing", the Deputy General Manager and Engineer-in-Chief of the "Voice of Barbados" visited China.

(2) In October 1990, at the invitation of the Chief Editor of the People's Daily. Mr. Harold Hoyte, Editor-in-Chief of Barbados Nation Newspaper, and his wife visited China. Mr. Shao Huaze, Chief Editor of the People's Daily, met with them and held a dinner in their honor.

(3) In May 1991, at the invitation of the Ministry of Broadcast and Film and Television of China, a two-member delegation headed by Mr. Sam Taitt, General Manager of Caribbean Broadcast Corporation visited China. Vice Minister Ma Qingxiong met with them and Mr. Yu Guanghua, Deputy Director-General of China Central Television (CCTV) held a talk with them.

(4) In September 2003, Mrs. Roxanne Gibbs, Executive Editor of the Nation Newspaper, and Mr. David Ellis, Programme Director of the STARCOM Network, visited China as the members of the First Joint Delegation of Caribbean Press.

(5) In September 2005, Mr. David Bryan, General Manager of The Advocate Publishers of Barbados, visited China as a member of the Second Joint Delegation of Caribbean Press.

(6) In November 2005, a working group from the Information Department of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs visited Barbados and had exchanges with their Barbadian counterparts. The working group met with Mrs. Jacqurine Wiltshire, Chief Information Officer of the Government Information Service, Mr. David Bryan, General Manager of The Advocate Publishers of Barbados, Mr. Harold Hoyte, Editor-in-Chief of Barbados Nation Newspaper and Dr. Allyson Leacock, General Manager of the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation.
