On May 16, the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Barbados held a symposium to commemorate the 47th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the People's Republic of China and Barbados. Around 20 attendees participated in the event, including the former Barbados Ambassador to China Dr. Chelston Brathwaite, President of the Association for Barbados-China Friendship Dr. Delisle Worrell, Chief Information Officer of the Government Information Service of Barbados Mr. Tyson Henry, as well as representatives from all walks of life. The Hon. Kerrie Symmonds, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Barbados, extended congratulations to the event.
In his remarks, Ambassador Yan Xiusheng stated that over the 47 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Barbados, bilateral relations of the two countries have maintained a positive momentum of development, setting a good example of mutual respect, equality, mutual benefit, and common development between countries of different sizes. China highly appreciates Barbados' consistent adherence to the one-China principle and its support for China's reunification efforts. China is ready to work with Barbados to uphold the founding aspirations of establishing diplomatic relations, carry forward the traditional friendship, continuously expand and substantiate the cooperation agenda, and jointly construct a community with a shared future between China and Barbados.
Minister Kerrie Symmonds and the participants highly praised the bilateral relations between China and Barbados , reaffirmed adherence to the one-China principle, and expressed their expectations to deepen pragmatic cooperation with China in various fields to better benefit the two countries and peoples.
