October 1 of this year marks the 72nd anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. First of all, I would like to convey good wishes to the overseas Chinese and Overseas Chinese-funded Enterprises in Barbados on behalf of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Barbados, and also extend heartfelt appreciation to local friends across all walks of life who are concerned and supportive of China's modernization work.

Over the past 72 years, under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, the Chinese people of all ethnic groups, through pioneering and hard work, has achieved great success for socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era. Nowadays, China has entered the new stage of development, striving for a new development pattern and sustained high-quality development. With per capita GDP over 10,000 US$ and more than 400 millions of middle-income population, we have realized the first centenary goal -- building a moderately prosperous society in all respects. The Chinese nation has achieved the tremendous transformation from standing up and growing prosperous to becoming strong. China's national rejuvenation has become a historical inevitability.

Barbados is China's good friend and good partner in the eastern Caribbean. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Barbados 44 years ago, the two countries have witnessed constant high-level exchanges and fruitful cooperation.On July 13, President Xi Jinping had a phone conversation with Barbadian Prime Minister Mia Mottley, during which both leaders commended highly on China-Barbados long-lasting friendship, exchanged views on our bilateral relations and international affairs of common concern, reached consensus extensively, and pointed out the direction of continuous development of the bilateral relations to the higher level. 

Since the outbreak of COVID-19, China and Barbados have pulled together and jointly overcome the difficulties. We have donated 30 thousands Chinese vaccines and 14 batches of medical supplies to Barbados. We also organized Webinar twice between top Chinese front-line medical experts and their counterparts in Barbados, sharing knowledge and experience in epidemic prevention and control. China will continue to strengthen cooperation with Barbados on Combating virus and public health, helping Barbados overcome the pandemic at an early date.

Fighting COVID-19 remains the most pressing task facing us all. We should follow the principle of putting people and their lives first and promote the spirit of science. We need to deepen international cooperation against the virus, promote fair and equitable distribution of vaccines and firmly oppose any act of politicizing COVID-19 origins tracing. To protect the lives and health of people from around the world, China has provided close to 1.2 billion doses of finished and bulk vaccines to over 100 countries and international organizations, thus becoming the biggest vaccine provider in the world. China has stepped up efforts to provide a total of two billion doses to other countries in the course of this year. We will deepen anti-COVID cooperation with other developing countries. In addition to donating 100 million US dollars to COVAX, China will donate another 100 million doses of vaccines to other developing countries in the course of this year, making our due contribution to humanity's ultimate victory over the virus.

The friendly cooperation between China and Barbados has never been stopped by the unexpected pandemic. As the third batch of electric buses made by Chinese company BYD are ready to start operation, there will be 49 electric buses in operation in Barbados. The total operation lengths is equivalent to driving around the Island 30 thousands laps, with 600 thousands liter of diesel being saved. This is a great contribution to Barbados's transition to clean transportation and clean energy, which is an essential part in coping with the challenges of climate change. China also provides assistance to 2 agricultural projects. The Center of Food Secrity and Enterpreneurship is in the final preparation, while Hope Agricultural Training Institute is poised to kick off. I believe these projects will be conducive to promoting local agricultural production, which will help Barbados to reduce import dependence, safeguard food security and enhance its social and economic resilience. The Sam Lord's Castle Hotel project, constructed by Chinese company, has created many more job opportunities for the local people and will create more when completed and put into operation next year, injecting fresh energy to the tourism industry of Barbados.

In the field concerning people's livelihood, China will cooperate with Barbados on Scotland District Road Rehabilitation Project soon. 150 emergency prefab houses will arrive in Barbados in the near future. This year, the 5th Chinese medical team has provided health care for more than 4,000 patients and participated in the rescue of more than 140 patients in critical conditions.

In the cultural field, the Confucius Institute of the West Indies University, Cave Hill Campus, tried its best to stick to the education schedule during the pandemic. It even worked with Barbados National Library to provide courses on Chinese language and Tai Chi for Barbadians. China also granted government scholarship to 6 Barbadian students, ep

ncouraging them to pursue further study in renowned Chinese Universities.

Over the past 72 years, China is firmly committed to an independent foreign policy of peace. On the journey ahead, China will remain committed to promoting peace, development, cooperation, and mutual benefit as well as the path of peaceful development. China will work to build a new type of international relations and a community with a shared future for mankind, promote high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative through joint efforts, and use China's new achievements in development to provide the world with new opportunities. China will continue to work with all peace-loving countries and peoples to promote the shared human values of peace, development, fairness, justice, democracy, and freedom. China will continue to champion cooperation over confrontation, to open up rather than closing our doors, and to focus on mutual benefits instead of zero-sum games. China will oppose hegemony and power politics, and strive to keep the wheels of history rolling toward bright horizons. 

July 1 of this year marked the centenary of the Communist Party of China. The history of the People's Republic of China is a history of perseverance and hard work by the Chinese people under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, a history of a big stride in economic and social development and a history of a big leap of Chinese people's life quality. I firmly believe, under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, through the joint efforts of the Chinese people and with the support from Barbadian friends, China will strive for greater achievement in the future. China is committed to higher level of opening up and creating more cooperative opportunities for all. Next year marks the 45th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Barbados. China would like to work with Barbados to further advance the bilateral relations under the guidance of President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Mia Mottley.
