Ambassador Yan expressed in the article that from the 8th to 11th April 2018, the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2018 was held in Boao, Hainan Province, China. President Xi Jinping delivered a keynote speech at the opening ceremony and reviewed the extraordinary achievements that China has made since adopting the policy of Reform and Opening up. President Xi Jinping stressed that China will stick to the principle of mutual benefit, announcing that China will adopt major measures to pursue further opening up including significantly broadening market access, creating a more attractive investment environment, strengthening protection of intellectual property rights and taking the initiative to expand imports. President Xi Jinping stressed that all countries should conform to the trend of the times, dedicate to openness and win-win outcomes, have the courage to change and break new ground and keep striving for a community with a shared future for mankind.

Ambassador Yan also pointed out in the article that as an important carrier to fulfill the initiative for building a community with shared future for mankind, as well as an international cooperation platform for all countries across the world, 5 years since its establishment, the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) has become the most welcomed international public product. The Caribbean region should also participate in the building of the BRI. As the China-Barbados relation is reaching its best time in history, China stands ready to work together with Barbados to promote the building of the BRI to further deepen the pragmatic cooperation in sectors like infrastructure, renewable energy, modern agriculture and people to people exchange. This will help to realize optimization, the upgrading and innovative development of cooperation and create a new pattern of cooperation featuring a wide range of fields: better structure, stronger impetus and greater quality between China and Barbados.
